Debra Beck has been teaching courses on nonprofit topics for the UW Master of Public Administration Program since 2001, delivered exclusively online since 2003. 

Community of Inquiry: Facilitating connection and learning in online courses

In this workshop, Debra will introduce the community of inquiry (http://communityofinquiry.com/), a framework for creating rich learning experiences in the online environment. She will discuss how she has attempted to build classes around teaching presence, cognitive presence and social presence - the successes and the challenges. She will show tools that facilitate those processes.

Debra will describe the community of framework, discuss how she builds her courses around that model, and show tools that facilitate the three types of presence represented in the CofI (social, cognitive and teaching).
